WBB: Jill Townsend Named West Coast Conference Player of the Week

First career PoTW honor for the junior guard

SAN BRUNO, Calif. – Gonzaga women's basketball junior guard Jill Townsend was named this week's West Coast Conference Player of the Week, the conference announced Monday. It is the first career Player of the Week honor for the Okanogan, Wash., native.

Townsend led Gonzaga to another perfect week, this time finishing 2-0 with wins at Montana State and at Washington State. She averaged 15.0 points per game shooting 66.6 percent from the floor and 50 percent from long range to go along with a perfect 100 percent showing from the line.  She added 6.0 rebounds per game, 1.0 assist and 1.5 steals.

Last Thursday at Montana State, Townsend helped the Zags gain some solid footing against the Bobcats, scoring six of her 16 total points in the opening quarter. She finished 7-of-11 from the floor for 16 total points against the Bobcats to lead the Zags, and she added six rebounds and two steals in the win.

Sunday at Washington State, Townsend helped the Zags extend their win streak to four games against their Pac-12 foe to the south. In 27 minutes of play, the junior guard netted 14 points off 5-of-7 from the floor including 3-of-4 from long range to go along with six boards, two assists and one steal.
